My name is Marieta Bekker, and I am the teacher responsible for the Baby-Toddler Class. I have been a Day Mother for the past 11 years who worked from home, and now I have the privilege to do the same at Orban. Currently I have one assistant, Stefina, who helps me in the class. She is a very good worker, reliable and loves children. More assistants will be appointed as the class grows.
The Baby-Toddler Class is a dual medium class and we accommodate both English and Afrikaans babies/toddlers. Each baby/toddler is addressed in the preferred language. Our main focus in the class is to develop social skills, gross motor skills and language skills. Each child is born with a great deal of potential. The extent to which this potential develops depends on the type of stimulation a child receives from an early age. Each baby/toddler gets the opportunity to develop and achieve their goals at their own pace.
We believe in routine and therefore follow the same routine everyday in an informal programme. Babies and toddlers feel more secure when they have a set routine. At Orban School we learn through play. We create opportunities for the toddlers to explore and experience different things under the watchful eye of Teacher Marieta and Stefina. We do observations throughout the year and hand out three Progress Reports (March, June and December).
Daily Programme
Teacher Marieta is in her class at 7:00 to welcome the littlies.
7:00 – 8:00 Arrival and breakfast
8:00 – 10:00 Indoor play
Art activity: The focus is on sensory development: Toddlers are introduced to different materials which they can touch and feel. They are encouraged to explore, to mess and to have fun.
Story time, singing songs and reciting easy rhymes.
10:00 – 11:00Refreshments: Sandwich and tea
Outdoor play: Gross motor skills are stimulated and developed by allowing the children to run, climb and clamber, play in the sandpit, ride scooter bikes and swing, while Teacher Marieta supervises.
11:00 Nap time
12:30 Lunch
13:30 Departure of half day babies/toddlers
Indoor and outdoor play
15:00 Refreshments: fruit and juice.
It is very important for a baby/toddler to feel safe, to trust you and to receive a lot of love and affection. They have to know that they are very special and only deserve the best.
Children are my passion!

By Orbanskool leer ons deur te speel.

Daar is deurentyd toesig.

Kinders is my passie!
